"Habit is habit, and not to be flung out the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs one step at a time." -Mark Twain
It takes time to make a change. Sometimes people think about making a change long before they are ready to prepare to make that change. Others identify a problem, are instantly ready to jump into action to fix it.
I believe that in order to let go of a habit that serves us in some way, we need to develop skills and habits to replace the old ones. If drinking nightly helped me to wind down and fall asleep- and I didn't sleep without it- I'd want to have some ideas of how to wind down and sleep without alcohol before I thought about trying to drink less or quit altogether.
"People are generally better persuaded by the reasons which they themselves discovered that by those which have come into the mind of others." -Blaise Pascal
What you decide to do is up to you. My role is to help you honestly explore, without judgement or criticism, what you want to do about your substance use.
I enjoy working with people who are:
For those that wrestle with substance abuse, I believe it's important to understand how addiction works in the brain, how drugs/alcohol interact with our bodies chemistry, benefits of substance use, damages of substance abuse, and explore the various ways people achieve abstinence. For some, this is achieved through Cognitive Behavioral interventions (CBT); others connect with the 12 Step model, Celebrate Recovery, Refuge Recovery, church, therapeutic wilderness programs, mindfulness, Harm Reduction, Seeking Safety, spirituality- let's explore what type of support will best help you reach your goals.
Give me a call to have a conversation about what you are looking for, and if working with me might be a good fit.

I enjoy working with people who are:
- interested in looking at the possibility of the need to change their use of drugs or alcohol
- interested in reducing drug/alcohol use (Harm Reduction) to limit potentially harmful impacts of substances in their lives
- ready to quit using or drinking, and want support preparing to make this change
- have quit using substances, but haven't found firm footing since then, joy hasn't returned to life, or are "white knuckling" it
- have co-occuring struggles including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, or BiPolar Disorder
